Julie Tixier is a French photographer whose practice explores the way human nature is changing under the influence of emerging techno-sciences. She reflects on how these contemporary advances increasingly question the borders of humanity by altering and redefining our human species and its future evolution. Through her photographs, the artist reinvents the scientific language with non-scientific materials to tackle the experimental conditions of contemporary scientific research. She interlaces scientific methodology and unbridled imagination, blurring the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic, the human and the non-human. Somewhere between reality and fiction, the artist draws attention to complex issues in a satirical and playful language.

Julie Tixier currently works between London and Paris.

Demain, le Post-Humain?

Science evolution continuously pushes back the limits of the human body. Until now, technology was overcoming the deficiencies of invalid and injured persons. Tomorrow, it could enhance the capacities of people in good health. The fusion of the man and the machine is on and is not a question of science-fiction anymore. Will we transgress the borders of humanity and create a new species ? Will technology make us better or simply less humans ? Through a prospective approach and a personal reading, the objective of this series is to highlight the perspectives of physical alterations engendered by the use of new technologies on the human body.
